Persecution on these islands comes mainly from the indigenous Muslim community, although government restraints remain tight. A referendum passed in 2009 installed Islam as the state religion and seriously restricted religious freedom. Only expats are allowed to operate churches. Converts from Islam to Christianity can be prosecuted, so Muslim-background believers meet in underground fellowships. Despite all of this, the church is reported to be growing in size and strength.
Pray:
- Due to the close relationship between Comoros and Iran, which has a close relationship with Comoros, causes Muslims in local mosques to be increasingly vigilant about Christian activities. Pray that their influence will weaken.
- For strength and courage for the few believers who must meet in secret.
- Open Doors funds the translation and distribution of literature in Comoros. Pray that God’s Word will reach those who need it most.
