Months of anti-government protests have left Syria on the verge of civil war. Under the secular regime of Bashar al-Assad, Christians had relative freedom to worship, although Christian meetings were monitored by the secret police and evangelism was discouraged. Since March 2011 there has been a rise in the number of fundamental Islamic groups operating in the country. There have been reports of Christians being threatened and churches being raided. In one city, Christians are afraid to leave their homes.
Pray:
- For an end to the bloodshed and that any change of government will lead to greater freedom for the people of Syria.
- That the rights of Christians and other religious minorities will be protected.
- That the church will have strength to stand firm and bring the light of Christ to their nation.
